• AV further mutilates Outer Hwy 18

    The Town of Apple Valley has further mutilated Outer Highway 18, this time at Kiowa. This mutilation seems to be in support of the Town’s support for the failed high-density housing project on the corner.

    All PayPal donations for the reward pool have been returned to the donor. In the case of donations by check, the checks have been shredded.

  • Trike Asylum features local group

    Trike Asylum has run a nice piece on the Sun City Trikers, a group of local recumbent trike riders who live and ride in Apple Valley.

    Given how few good jumping-off points there are for rides in the area, it seems appropriate to mention that a new Starbucks has opened in Apple Valley, at the corner of Highway 18 and Dale Evans Parkway.

  • The return of Tim and Steve

    This morning, Tim “TJ” Moreno and Steve Sterns returned to Apple Valley Road to finish the ride they started on June 11th of this year, a ride cut short by a hit-and-run driver.

    Ride into fall by participating in the Fourth Annual Chuck Hanson Tour de Apple Valley October 22. Check in at Apple Valley Civic Center Park at 6 a.m. for the 7 a.m. ride.

  • Thanks, animal control!

    From what I can tell, there some local rider who deserves our thanks, for it seems that someone pepper-sprayed one or more of those loose dogs on Johnson Road, getting them to rethink the wisdom of chasing cyclists. The last three times I’ve been by, they didn’t so much as bark.

  • BCAR follow-up

    Carol at Victor Valley Cycles writes: “Thank you to everyone who participated today! Cheers to all the volunteers, riders, and supporters of this annual ride! We had 236 riders and raised $7,000.00!”

  • Navajo Road update

    Navajo Road is no longer dirt and gravel in the construction section south of Johnson Road, but the asphalt is neither smooth nor free of sand. It’s not particularly dangerous or different to ride, but let’s hope that they make it better by the completion of construction.

  • Hit-and-run driver arrested

    The man authorities believe injured two bicyclists over the weekend then fled the scene was arrested late Wednesday night, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Apple Valley station officials said.
