Coroner’s officials have identified a bicyclist from Victorville who died after being struck by two cars in Hesperia last week.

John L. Hewitt, 48, of Victorville was killed in the crash, which took place about 5:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at Highway 395 and Joshua Street, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner officials.

Hewitt succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Deputies determined Hewitt was struck by a Subaru Forester, as well as a Toyota Camry, sheriff’s officials said in a written statement.

“Preliminary findings indicated that while Hewitt was riding his bicycle he was struck by a driver of a Subaru. The impact knocked the cyclist off his bicycle and onto the ground,” the statement said. “While [Hewitt] was on the ground, he was subsequently struck by a driver of a Toyota Camry.”

The involved drivers “remained on scene and are cooperating with investigators,” sheriff’s department spokeswoman Jenny Smith said at the time.
