Town of Apple Valley completes Safe Routes to School projects

Apple Valley, CA – Feb. 22, 2021: When children resume in-person learning again at Mariana Academy, Sandia Academy , Apple Valley High School, and Rio Vista School of Applied Learning, they can walk or bike to school easier now that construction is complete on projects designed to improve access along commonly used routes to these schools.

Mojave Riverwalk Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Inaugural Bike Ride

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The City of Victorville will host an event to celebrate the Grand Opening of the Victorville Mojave Riverwalk on Nov. 2.

The Fun Run/Walk will begin at 9 a.m., the Ribbon Cutting will take place at 10 a.m., and the Inaugural Bike Ride will immediately follow the Ceremony.

Caltrans pulls plug on High Desert Corridor freeway effort

The California Department of Transportation [Caltrans] rather quietly last month pulled the plug on the long-in-the-works plans for the 63-mile Desert Corridor Freeway that was to link California State Route 14 in Palmdale and State Route 18 in Apple Valley.

Caltrans settles environment lawsuit, cancels high desert freeway project

A recent court settlement spells the end for the planned High Desert Corridor Freeway. Bryn Lindblad, deputy director of Climate Resolve – one of the plaintiffs – calls the settlement “a victory for smart planning [and against] climate change.” Climate Resolve estimates that the freeway would have resulted in four million additional miles being driven every day. Those tailpipes would have contributed major greenhouse gas emissions, exacerbating the planet’s climate emergency.
