Bicyclist dead after being struck by Expedition

VICTORVILLE — Authorities said a crash left a bicyclist dead early Monday morning.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Jodi Miller said reports of a traffic collision involving a Ford Expedition and a man on a bicycle on Mariposa Road and Talpa Street were first received at 2:30 a.m. Monday. The Expedition struck the man on the bicycle, who suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured, San Bernardino County Fire Department Captain Jeremy Kern said. The driver remained at the scene and Miller said the driver was not cited or arrested.

The identity of the victim will be released pending notification of next of kin.
The crash shut down Mariposa Road between Yates and Nisqualli roads for hours Monday morning. Mariposa Road was reported to be open again by 8:30 a.m. Monday, authorities said.

The crash is under investigation by the Victorville Sheriff’s Station Major Accident Investigation Team.
