Apple Valley north loop: 25 miles

This ride starts with a nice "warm-up" climb out of Apple Valley, just to get your legs working.

Road conditions

Many of these roads have little to no shoulder, but if at the right time of day traffic is minimal, and drivers seem courteous -- moving well over to give you room.

Variations

You might prefer to ride this route clockwise, as if you ride counter-clockwise you'll find yourself bombing down Apple Valley Road toward Highway 18 East, and there's a lot of vehicular traffic in and out of the Valero Station on the corner. If you cut over on Kamana Road, then you're stuck with rejoining Highway 18 East either at Kasota Road (which is no better, given the traffic in and out of St. Mary) or Corwin Road.

Notes

MapMyRide wouldn't allow an accurate portrayal of the roads around the airport, but as you come down Navajo Road, you turn right on Altadena Road, then left on Dakota Road, and then right on Corwin Road to get to Dale Evans Parkway.
