Digital Bicycle Route 66 now available

For years Adventure Cycling has offered maps to help cross-country cyclists. One of its offerings covered the famous Route 66. Often called “The Main Street of America,” made famous in popular songs, literature, television and movies, “Route 66,” became a reality in 1926 as a highway connecting Chicago and Los Angeles. Locally, it runs through Barstow, Helendale, Victorville, and the Cajon Pass. Between Oatman, Arizona, and Los Angeles are some of the most isolated stretches and busiest urban stretches of Bicycle Route 66. The route ends at the Santa Monica pier on the Pacific Ocean. Apple Valley plans huge new distribution center

The Town of Apple Valley is in negotiations with a major company (probably Big Lots) to build a 1.3 million square foot distribution center in north Apple Valley. The new distribution center would be south of the Victor Valley College Public Safety Campus and north of Altadena Street, with an entrance off of Navajo Road. Continue reading

Apple Valley receives $200,000 Safe Routes to Schools grant

The Town of Apple Valley has been awarded funding for a grant that will improve transportation routes for students traveling to and from school. The grant will focus on “high risk” schools and their surrounding roads, enabling more students to safely walk or ride their bike to class. The grant does not provide funding for any construction to take place, however, it will allow an evaluation for 10 K-8 grade schools that will focus on the risks and options necessary to improve these routes. Redlands Bicycle Classic Time Trial sets the tone for Amgen Tour of California

Big Bear Lake, Calif. March 12, 2015 – This year, Big Bear Lake hosts the Amgen Tour of California Stage 6 Time Trial that takes place May 15, 2015. This marks the third time in five years Big Bear Lake is a host city for Amgen Tour of California, which is considered the largest and most prestigious road cycling race in the USA. Redlands Bicycle Classic, another premier-domestic race on the USA Cycling National Racing Calendar, has once again included Big Bear as one of its five stages for the third year in a row. Big Bear is set to host the Redlands Bicycle Classic Stage 2 Time Trial Thursday, April 9, 2015. These two elite professional road cycling events held in Big Bear, which are just one month apart, demonstrates Big Bear is well-received by the industry as a premier cycling destination.
